Technology designed for professionals

DFOX® is designed to simplify and optimize control unit programming operations.

The platform allows operations such as the following to be carried out quickly and safely:

  • Reading the control unit memories
  • Writing the processed files
  • Cloning control units
  • Managing external memories

Every procedure is supported by detailed technical manuals that guide the operator through the connection and programming stages.

This approach makes it possible to work with precision, safety and maximum operational efficiency.

Professional hardware kit

DFOX® comes with a complete hardware kit, designed to let the user work straight away on different types of control unit.

The kit includes:

  • DFOX® interface
  • OBD communication cables
  • Bench Box
  • specific adapters for different control unit models

The electronic boards of the interface and of the Bench Box are protected by safety fuses, designed to safeguard the system against accidental short circuits.

Connection modes

To guarantee maximum compatibility with the different control units on the market, DFOX® supports several operating modes.

OBD mode icon

OBD Programming, through the diagnostic socket

The OBD mode allows programming through the vehicle's diagnostic socket, without removing the control unit from the vehicle. The DFOX V2 software communicates with ECUs and TCUs through standard protocols (ISO CAN bus, K-line, L-line) using the OBD cable supplied. This mode is ideal for quick operations in the workshop on vehicles of every category: cars, motorcycles, trucks, tractors, industrial engines and marine vehicles. The software includes virtual reading functions that download the file from the DFB servers in a few seconds when available, speeding the process up even further. Control unit software version upgrade/downgrade functions and a back to stock function for restoring the original configuration are available.

BENCH mode icon

BENCH MODE, Bench Programming

Bench Mode allows the programming of the control unit removed from the vehicle, connecting directly to the external ECU connector (Pinout) without opening the control unit cover. This method often allows complete reading and writing of the microprocessor (internal flash), EEPROM and, where present, external flash and external EEPROM. The DFOX V2 software provides detailed wiring diagrams for every supported control unit, showing the connection example and the wiring layout. This mode often allows the cloning of control units and the repair of ECUs/TCUs damaged at software level. For control units with a Tricore TC17xx processor, advanced clone service functions are available that allow the automatic adaptation of OTP zones and passwords, guaranteeing perfectly working clone files.

BOOT JTAG mode icon

BOOT MODE, Low Level Communication

BOOT MODE allows direct communication with the processor at low level, used when BENCH MODE is not available, when a corrupted file has previously been written and the control unit no longer responds through the standard protocols. This mode requires connecting a BOOT (or CNF1) pin on the electronic board, an operation that can also be carried out with a needle on opened control units. DFOX V2 supports Boot Mode on C167, ST10F, Tricore, Renesas, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu and Hitachi processors. BOOT MODE is useful for recovering damaged control units and for full access to control units with active hardware protections.

BOOT JTAG mode icon

JTAG Mode

JTAG Mode uses the debug interface of the microprocessor for full access to the internal memory, even on control units with active software protections. DFOX V2 supports JTAG Nexus (for MPC/SPC 55xx and 56xx), JTAG Renesas and JTAG NEC 76F00xx and JTAG AURIX protocols, covering the most widespread architectures in the automotive sector. The connection is made through the flat cables supplied in the kit, following the diagrams available in the software. This mode is reserved for experienced operators working on control unit recovery with specialist procedures.

DFOX® supports numerous communication protocols, including:

DFOX® V2

DFOX® V2 is the evolution of the DFOX® platform, designed to offer high performance while keeping a simple and intuitive interface.

The software allows all operations to be carried out in just a few steps, guaranteeing a fast and efficient workflow.

The search for drivers is made easier by numerous selection filters:

- vehicle category
- vehicle make
- model
- engine
- control unit type

A dynamic search through the search bar is also available, which makes it possible to find the desired driver quickly. Once the vehicle and the control unit have been selected, the system automatically shows the available connection modes.

dfox interfaccia

Among the main features available:

Day / Night graphic mode
customizable font sizes
multilingual support
Favorite drivers section
Recent drivers history

These features make it possible to organize work efficiently and quickly access the most used operations.

Reliability and safety

DFOX hardware uses certified electronic components and a stabilized power supply to keep the voltage constant during all operating stages. This feature reduces the risk of data corruption or damage to the control unit caused by voltage instability, a frequent problem with consumer grade devices.

Every hardware unit is assembled and tested at the DFB Technology site in Selvazzano Dentro (Padua) on real control units before shipping. The product is CE certified and covered by warranty.

Before every writing operation, the DFOX V2 software runs automatic checks:

Checksum/RSA/CVN calculation:

Automatic verification and correction of the control values in the file to be written, avoiding programming errors that could lock the control unit.

Backup:

The original file is saved before every writing operation, allowing a full restore if needed.

Connection pre check:

Verification of the stability of the communication with the control unit before starting critical operations.

Forced recovery:

A function that makes it possible to recover the dialogue with control units that no longer respond after accidental interruptions (cables disconnected, PC battery flat).

Back to stock functions:

Restoring the original factory configuration of the control unit.

Operational speed

DFOX® V2 is designed to guarantee speed and fluidity in programming operations.

The control unit management functions adapt automatically to the type of memory being handled, making it possible to work quickly and efficiently.

With just a few clicks all the main functions are immediately accessible, making the workflow extremely intuitive.

Software versions available: MASTER and SLAVE

DFOX® is available in Master and Slave configurations, designed for different ways of working.

Master

The Master version allows full control over editing operations.

It makes it possible to:

  • read and write files in complete autonomy
  • edit the files directly
  • manage a network of Slave devices

The Master system can manage an unlimited number of Slave devices, organizing and monitoring all operations.

Slave

The Slave version is designed to work together with a Master system. The Slave can:

  • read and write the control unit
