BENCH Mode is a communication system that makes it possible to read and write the complete content of the control unit by connecting directly to the external pinout, with no need to open the control unit cover. This mode is essential for control unit cloning operations, the repair of damaged ECUs/TCUs and procedures that require full access to the memory.
DFOX V2 provides detailed wiring diagrams for every supported control unit, showing how to connect to the Pinout. The system guarantees precise and safe operations.
BENCH Mode is a simple and innovative communication system that makes it possible to read the entire content of the control unit without having to open it. Only the power wires and the data signals on the control unit connector (Pinout) need to be connected.
DFOX® in Bench mode allows the following operations:
access to the internal flash of the microcontroller where the control unit’s operating software resides.
management of the EEPROM memory that contains configuration parameters, adaptations and vehicle specific data.
where present, management of additional flash memories external to the microprocessor.
management of additional EEPROM memories for extended data.
Connection manuals are available for every control unit, with detailed indications about power supply, ground and data communication pins.
The BENCH Mode connection makes it possible to work in a simple way, because there is no need to open the control unit cover, which avoids damaging the electronic board with soldering or invasive procedures.
The BENCH Mode connection makes it possible to read and write the control units of different types of vehicle. In particular, with this type of connection it is possible to work on the microprocessor (internal flash) and EEPROM and, where present, also on external flash and external EEPROM.
Most control units can be cloned, transferring the entire content from the old one to the new one. The process involves:
After cloning, it is enough to fit the control unit on the vehicle without carrying out any configuration or setting with the diagnostic tool. The cloned control unit behaves exactly like the original.
For control units with an Infineon Tricore TC17xx processor, the DFOX V2 software includes numerous “Clone Service” functions that allow the adaptation of the OTP zones and the password zones.
OTP (One Time Programmable) zones contain unique data written at the factory. The DFOX® Clone Service automatically adapts these zones inside the file, guaranteeing that the cloned control unit will have a file consistent with the firmware characteristics of the new control unit’s processor.
This advanced process is essential to guarantee the correct operation of the new cloned control unit and to avoid software incompatibility errors or overwritten passwords.
DFOX® calculates and corrects the Checksum of the file and runs the checks needed to avoid any risk, before programming the vehicle’s control unit.
These automatic checks minimize the risk of damaging the control unit during bench programming operations.
The DFOX® BENCH Mode connection works on control units of every type of vehicle:
For every control unit supported in BENCH Mode, the DFOX V2 software provides:
Detailed pinout diagram: diagram of the control unit connector with pin numbering and signal identification.
Indication of the cables to use: specifies which DFOX® kit cables to connect and to which pins.
Operating sequence: step by step procedure with connection examples for making the connection correctly.
These manuals are constantly updated and expanded on the basis of the new control units added to the database and the operational feedback of DFOX® users.
